Abstract

1,066,644. Waveguide seals; travelling- wave tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRONICS CORPORATION. July 7, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 27996/64. Headings H1D and H1W. A window 6 of e.g. glass, ceramic, quartz or sapphire is sealed to an annular rebate or rebates formed in the butting faces of flanges 5, 9 provided on the ends of rectangular waveguides 3, 8. The flanges define an annular space, the radial and axial dimensions of which are so related to the thickness of the window, the dielectric constant of the window and the dimensions of the waveguides that optimum matching of the window to the guides is produced. The window may be used in the output waveguides of travelling wave and backward wave tubes.
