A mixing chamber 9, Fig. 1, for the screw feeder 2 of a pneumatic conveyer comprises a cylindrical wall 6 having multiple oblique apertures 10 for the carrier gas. A sealing flap 12 normally closes the end of the feed tube 1 and is loaded by a weight 14 or spring operating through linkages 13. Deflecting members 17 are fitted in the annular plenum chamber and may be adjustable.
