Abstract
1,065,935. Maize huskers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 18, 1966 [April 16, 1965], No. 12132/66. Heading A2Q. The husking bed of a maize (corn) picker comprises at least one pair of cylindrical rolls 12 and 14 mounted, e.g. axially inclined, in a frame 11. The rolls are closely spaced apart and are rotatable, as by toothed gears, in opposite directions, so as to carry husks of corn (maize) cobs through the nip between the rolls, and thus strip off the husks. One of the rolls, e.g. roll 14 as shown, is provided with a plurality of axially spaced discs 27, made of resilient material, such as rubber, which discs project from the cylindrical surface of said roll and may be received in corresponding circumferential grooves 29 in the other roll, e.g. roll 12. One roll, e.g. roll 14 may be made of a metal such as cast iron, the other roll, e.g. roll 12, may be made of, or coated with, resilient material such as rubber. The axial distance between the discs may be less than the average length of the husks. Two pairs of rollers 12 and 14 may be mounted in the frame, and an inverted V-shaped central deflector 25 and downwardly inclined side deflectors 26 may be provided.
