Abstract

106,582. Howden & Co., J., and Hume, J. H. Oct. 21, 1916. Water-tube boilers.-In a boiler comprising groups of vertical water-tubes connected to upper and lower longitudinal drums, as described in Specifications 26330/08, 27449/10, and 5383/12, superheaters are fitted in the flues between the groups of tubes. U-tube superheaters 9 extend into the secondary combustion chambers 17 at the back of the boiler, baffles 16 being provided to protect the superheaters from direct contact with the hot gases. The passage of the hot gases to the superheaters is controlled by the insertion of loose bricks in the openings in chequer brickwork 14 at the ends of the flues.
