Abstract
1,065,788. Testing physical qualities of materials. V. PERLIK and B. VODRAZKA. May 24, 1965, No. 21959/65. Heading G1S. A method of evaluating the relative abrasive qualities of samples of abrasive material includes rubbing each of the samples 35 of abrasive material against one end of a test piece 16 and measuring the amount of the test piece ground off by each sample. The apparatus comprises a housing 1 on which is erected a column 25 surrounded by a rotatable sleeve 27 having a horizontally extending arm supporting a cylindrical guide 15. The guide contains a tube 26 in which a testing rod 16 is slidably arranged. The abrasive material to be tested is fixed on to a circular plate 10 by a ring 11 and the testing rod 16 inserted in the tube 26, the weight thereof being adjusted by a balance weight 20. A shifting rod 17 carrying a scale 36 Fig. 6 (not shown) is placed in position with the lower end of the rod 17 abutting the top end of the testing rod 16. Above the shifting rod 17 is a vessel 22 connected by a tube 24 to a container 23 filled with water. The circular plate 10 is mounted in a tray 3 with a lid 14 which may be exhausted through a pipe 37. A motor 6 rotates the plate 10 for a predetermined time set on a timing mechanism and the amount of testing rod which is ground away is measured on the scale 36 and a scale 30. The amount so obtained is compared with a standard.
