Abstract

1,065,365. Systems, radiators and heat storing apparatus for heating buildings; hot water supply systems. J. McCLELLAN. Sept. 17, 1965 [Nov. 18, 1964], No. 39797/65. Headings F4A, F4S and F4U. In a hot water supply or central heating system in which the hot water is circulated through tubing made of Polyvinylchloride (P.V.C.) the tubing is encased in a solid medium which supports the tubing against deformation due to the heat or pressure of the water. The tubing may have a solid and rigid covering material, or be embedded in concrete, asphalt or the like. In under-floor central heating systems, the floor may be of asphalt, tar macadam, coke breeze or the like and have a continuous system of parallel U-shaped grooves in which the tubing is laid and grouted in, the whole being covered by a top layer of concrete. In wooden floors, tubes are embedded in fine sand in inter-joist spaces and interconnected across each joist by a copper tube. The P.V.C. tubing may be cast in a block of fine cement concrete to provide a heat storage unit which may be connected into a hot water centralheating system in a manner similar to the conventional cast iron or steel radiators.
