Abstract

1,065,213. Electrical voting apparatus; counters. A. VAGNARELLI. April 9, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14740/64. Headings G4D and G4T. In a voting apparatus, a plurality of first counters 0, 1 ... n, connected in parallel, are each operated by a push-button P0, P1... Pn which also operates a common indicator lamp S to show that voting has occurred. The operating current causes a voltage drop across resistor r2 sufficient to release relay R and thereby interrupt the supply at contact C. Also, if more than one push button, P0, P1 &c., is operated simultaneously, a current-limiting resistor rl prevents operation of the counters and again the relay R is released. The circuit can be reset by depressing a push-switch PB to re-energize relay R. Another set of first counters 0a, la . . . na operated by pushbuttons POa,Pla . . . Pna, are each connected in series with a second set of counters laa, lab ... 1an, naa, nab . . . nan. Operation of pushbutton Pla, for example, operates counter 1a and also energizes relay R1a to close contacts lacl, 1ac2 so that one of the counters laa, 1ab ... 1an may be operated by one of pushbuttons Tlaa, Tlab . . . Tlan which also energizes relay laBl to open bar contact b1a and hence prevent more than one vote being recorded. Contact b1a is retained open by relay 1aB2 closing contact 1aC3. The circuits are reset by operating linked push-buttons PB, PBa and PBb. In order to set the second set of counters for operation without use of one of push-buttons P1a . . . Pna, commutator D moves switches D1a . . . Dna, D3, D4 to the I position and hence operates relays R1a . Rna. To meet the possibility of electricity failure, batteries are buffer connected to the mains supply. The electric equipment is housed in a metal hood, the front being antimagnetic and provided with the push-buttons. The inside of the hood is accessible through a rear shutter which is closed with a tight seal.
