1,065,157. Rack-mounted electrical equipmerit. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 13, 1965 [Sept. 14, 1964], No. 37473/64. Heading H1R. In electrical apparatus, e.g. telephone exchange apparatus, of the kind in which panels bearing components are slidably mounted on a shelf, a panel retaining bar is supported on the shelf for pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bar, the arrangement being such that in one of two positions in which the bar is locked against pivotal movement the bar prevents withdrawal of the panels from the shelf, while in the other of said two positions withdrawal of the panels is permitted. In Fig. 3, a shelf adapted to be secured between two vertical members of a rack (not shown) comprises end plates 6 held apart by lower and upper channel section members 8, 9, which have regularly spaced transverse slots 10 along their webs; lower members 8 also have notches 11 along their free longitudinal edges; members 8, 9 are secured to plates 6 by means of plate members 13 and brackets 12 respectively. Channel section guides 15, mounted in opposing pairs between members 8 and members 9, slidably receive component mounting panels of the kind described and claimed in Specification 1,065,158, having at the rear end a connector plug 27 which enters a socket member 17. A locking bar 41 of rectangular section is eccentrically pivoted on spring-loaded pins 42, also of rectangular section, which enter sockets (not shown) in plates 6. One socket has a keyhole shape so that, in either of two positions 180 degrees apart of the bar 41, one pin 42 falls into the narrow part of the socket and locks the bar in that position; in one of these two positions the bar prevents the withdrawal of the panels, in the other position the bar permits withdrawal. Alternatively, the pins 42 may be of circular section, the pin associated with the keyhole aperture having flats to allow locking. Bar 41 may be of extruded alloy, and may carry labelling, coding marks &c.
