1423505 Component assemblies GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 2 Feb 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 3432/75 Divided out of 1407022 Heading H1R In electrical equipment assembly e.g. racks for telephone equipment printed circuit component modules e.g. 1 are mounted on guides 2 of rack 3 to slide between a fully inserted position (Fig. 2) and a withdrawn position (Fig.1); the guides being cantilevered out from a vertical rear mounting plate 4 secured to the rack. On the latter there are provided for each guide six multiway plug units 6 mating with a corresponding socket 7 on plate 8; the plugs and sockets being held together by screws 9. The sockets are compared to components of the module by flexible multiway flat cable 10 clamped at 11 to module 1 and wired to individual pins of sockets 7 with intermediate support by resilient plastic clamp 12 carried by plate 8, so that free movement of the module is permitted between its positions without disconnection. In the first position the cable lies under and flush with the module parallel to the guide and in the second position it flexes with the vacant space 13. Module 1 carries latches 14 engaging strikers to retain the module in its first position, and may be unscrewed with sockets 7, to permit total withdrawal of the module and cable (Fig. 3 not shown), which may be plugged into or unplugged from the rack. The sockets 7 are mounted on plate 8 with a small degree of play to accommodate manufacturing tolerances, and the plugs and sockets are located together by dowel pins and holes.
