Abstract

1315641 Racks SIEMENS AG 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970 26 March 1970] 21664/71 Heading H1R An assembly of telecommunication equipment has a support, Fig. 2, for equipment units 6 comprising L-shaped rails 1, 2, having sockets for connecting to the units arranged on the inside of the "angle" of the rails, a distributor section 24 accepting external wires 13, a jumper section 21 and a connection bay 20 having cable connection 19 to the sockets 3 in one of the L-rail "angles" 2 the distributer section and the connection bay being wired together by wires 30 passing through the jumper bay. Inter-unit wiring 14 is provided to interconnect the sockets in the "angle" of the rail 1, Figs. 3b and 3c, show sockets of rails 1 and 2 respectively, spring contacts 15, wiring pins 16 and guide pin 5 being shown. In rail 1, the socket may be electrically interconnected at both top or bottom and the cable 14 is clamped by part 17. The sockets in rail 2 may be provided with back cases 32. The units may be secured by pivot means, or rest on a bracket 34 (Fig. 6) a traction thrust screw 53, Fig. 7, being provided to engage a threaded block on the bracket. Shrouds 56 further help locate the knife contacts of the unit 6. The bracket, also in Fig. 9; not shown, is secured by means of adjustable lugs 38 projecting through slots in the rails. The units (Figs. 4b-4f, 8, not shown) comprise a case 11 having a back panel 8 (Fig. 7) in the form of a double sided printed circuit board, knife contacts corresponding to the rail sockets on the outside and spring contacts corresponding to the arrangement of the required circuit elements 9 on the inside, e.g. to engage knife contacts 12 (Fig. 4a). Further units 44 may be arranged alongside the connector assembly at the rear of the support, Fig. 10, electrical connection being provided by connector 49. Plug-in units 43 may be included to switch current and signal carrier supplies to adjacent support column units. The angle rails are secured in relation by hoop members 22, Fig. 2. The rails and hoops may be integrally formed to produce a U- shaped channel.
