Abstract

1,064,641. Concrete mixers. ROYAL INDUSTRIES Inc. April 9, 1964, No. 14693/64. Heading B1C. [Also in Division F2] In a machine for mixing mixtures containing abrasive materials, e.g. mixing machines for plaster, sand &c., and comprising a shaft 12 rotatable mounted in a bearing 23 and extending into a mixing bowl, the shaft is sealed where it passes through the bowl wall 10a by means comprising a pair of relatively rotatable sealing rings 13, 14 having mutually contacting sealing faces (13a, 14a) and made of a material having a hardness not less than that of tungsten carbide so as to be capable of grinding any abrasive materials lodging between the faces (13a, 14a). Any abrasive material seeping between the faces 13a, 14a is ground to a paste which together with any other fluid or material leaking past the rings 13 and 14 is drained by gravity through an opening 22b in the bearing housing.
