Abstract

1,064,400. Making turbine blades; welding by fusion. ROVER CO. Ltd. Dec. 22, 1965 [Dec. 30, 1964], No. 52750/64. Headings B3A and B3R. [Also in Division F1] In a composite rotor for a turbine or compressor, platforms 2 each carrying one blade or a group of blades are welded to the periphery of the rotor disc 1 by at least one annular weld produced by electron beam welding. The blades and platforms are made from a different material to the disc, the former being, e.g., of a casting alloy and the latter of a material having good ductility and strength. In the embodiment shown two annular welds are prevented from overlapping and providing a weak double weld, by a buffer cavity 8 in accordance with Specification 1,064,399. Adjacent platforms may abut and be welded together or be spaced apart and the spaces filled with a suitable material.
