Capacitor 1, e.g. a solid electrolytic tantalum capacitor, is connected to terminals on a plane surface such as a printed-circuit board by means of pipes 6 and 7 of solderable material connected to cathode 3 and anode 2 respectively, and projecting through the insulating coating 8. Electrical connection is achieved by laying the capacitor in place and applying localized heat and pressure.
