A method of making a wood moulding for pieces of furniture or the like comprises partially filling a mould with wood strips so as to leave a space in the mould, placing wood agglomerate or wood of lower quality than the strips in the space, and moulding the whole to the final shape required for the moulding. The moulding comprises two strips 1, 2 of low quality wood, the strip 1 being formed with a rabbet for a panel or sheet of glass 5. A filling material 3 such as an agglomerate mass, is retained between the strips 1, 2 and a veneer 4 or thin sheet of plastic. Alternatively, the filling material (3, Fig. 3) may be between two strips of wood (7, 8), an outer veneer (9) and a curved facing veneer (10). In another embodiment, the element comprises a low quality wood strip (11, Fig. 4) covered on all surfaces by veneers (12, 13, 17, 18), and in other embodiments, the strip consists of layers of wood (14, 15, 16, Figs. 5, 6 and 7) arranged in various directions. The strips may be pre-shaped and given their final shape in the mould and be secured together by adhesive. The strips may also be prehumidified to render them more easily mouldable.
