Abstract
Linear segmented polyurethanes consisting essentially of intra-linear units of formula <FORM:1064175/C3/1> where x and y are integers greater than missing text is a long chain polyether or polyester radical, and R is phenylene, biphenylene or alkylene diphenyl are prepared by reacting a prepolymer of formula <FORM:1064175/C3/2> with m xylylene diamine, said radical E being such that a hydroxyl terminated polymer of formula HO-E-OH has a M.P. of below 60 DEG C. and a M.W. of 600-5000, wherein the structure <FORM:1064175/C3/3> represents a repeating unit of a linear urea polymer having a melting point above 200 DEG C. and wherein 60-95% by weight of said segmented polymer is provided by the structure <FORM:1064175/C3/4> to produce an elastomeric polymer having an inherent viscosity of 1.0-4.0 decilitres per gram or above.
