Abstract

1,186,693. Unsaturated polyurethanes. MICHELIN & CIE (Compagnie Generale des Etabs Michelin). 15 May, 1967 [16 May, 1966], No. 22513/67. Heading C3R. Unsaturated polyurethanes which have terminal unsaturations, a M.W. of 20,000 to 200,000, and ethylenic unsaturations distributed substantially statistically at average intervals of 1000 to 8000 units of molecular weight along the molecule either in the molecular chain itself or in branches from the molecular chain, may be prepared by reacting in the following relative proportions: (a) n moles of an unsaturated polyester, polyether, polyesteramide, polyamide or polyesterether having two functional groups reactive with isocyanates and an average number of ethylenic unsaturations of 1 per 1000 to 8000 units of molecular weight, these ethylenic unsaturations being distributed substantially statistically along the length of the polymer molecule; (b) 2 moles of an unsaturated compound which is monofunctional with respect to isocyanates; and (c) n+1 moles of an organic diisocyanate. In specific examples the compound (a) is an unsaturated polyester prepared from adipic acid, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and allyloxypropanediol, the monoallylether of trimethylolpropane or 1,1-dimethanolcyclohex-3-ene, the compound (b) is diallyloxypropanol, diallylamine or the diallyl ether of trimethylolpropane and the diisocyanate (c) diphenylmethane - 4,41 - diisocyanate. The polyurethanes may be vulcanized by subjecting them to a system comprising sulphur, mercaptobenzothiazole, mercaptobenzothiazole disulphide or mercaptobenzothiazole polysulphide and an activator, several of which are listed.
