Abstract

1455695 Curing epoxy resins; polyurethanes; silamorpholine salt AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc 15 Nov 1973 52996/73 Headings C3B C3R and C3S [Also in Division C2] New compounds, useful as delayed action catalysts for making polyurethane resins or for curing epoxide resins are salts of tertiary amines and carboxylic acids of formula where R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or aryl and either (a) n is 1 and X is CN, NO 2 , COC 6 H 5 or COCH 3 or (b) n is 2 and X is SO, SO 2 or CO. The group X promotes decomposition of the salt at temperatures between 70‹ and 200‹ C. with release of the tertiary amine and CO 2 . In examples the salts were added to (1) an isocyanate terminated polyesterurethane, (4) a mixture of polypropylene glycol (M.W. 3000) and tolylene diisocyanate, (6) a mixture of polypropylene glycol (M.W. 2000), polyethylene glycol (M.W. 4000) and tolylene diisocyanate, (7) and (8) ethylene glycol terephthate (M.W. 3000) and di - (isocyanato - chloro - phenyl)- methane and optionally dibutyltin diacetate, (10) and (11) polyol CP 3000 and tolylene diisocyanate, (9) a glycidyl polyether.
