Abstract

1,063,691. Fuel elements. U.K. ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 2, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1963], No. 1147/63. Heading G6C. A nuclear reactor fuel element is formed of parallel columns of uranium dioxide cylinders 3 enclosed in a thin-walled, stainless steel sheath 4 having no longitudinal seams. The partial indentation of the sheath between the fuel permits flexing of the sheath 4 due to temperature and coolant gas pressure changes. In a modification, the fuel rods are arranged in a circle between inner and outer indented sheaths.
