Abstract

1,063,620. Automatic corrosion protection. VOLKSWERFT STRALSUND VEB. June 26, 1964, No.26553/64. Heading G3R. In a steel corrosion protection installation, e.g. for a ship, a detector electrode automatically controls a number of power transistors connected in parallel so that their collector currents are additive to supply a protective electrode. In Fig. 1, the current to anodes 29, 37 located at different points near the hull 1 of a ship is automatically controlled to maintain the potential of a half cell electrode 2, situated midway between anodes 29, 37, at a value determined by an adjustable reference voltage from a potentiometer 4, despite variations in the area immersed. Deviations from this value are effective through a transistor amplifier 5 to control power transistors 19, 20, 21 which are coupled so that their collector currents are additive to determine the current from a D.C. source 30 to anode 29. Amplifier 5 also controls a similar set of power transistors 36 which determine the current to anode 37 in a similar manner. Rectifiers 33-35 isolate amplifier 5 from source 30. An electrode 40 situated midway between the two systems is connected to a voltmeter 41 to indicate hull potential.
