Abstract
1,097,648. Automatic control systems for cathodic protection. VOLKSWERFT STRALSUND VEB. March 3, 1966, No.9328/66. Heading G3R. A cathodic protection system for an object 1 such as a ship comprises an A. C. source 62 which supplies protective current by way of a rectifier bridge 21 including thyristors 24, 25 the firing angles of which are controlled in dependence upon variations in the protective potential on object 1 as detected by a sensing electrode 2, the output of the rectifier 21 being connected to the object 1 and to an anode 26. The electrode 2 is connected to a circuit 8 which includes a reference Zener diode 4 and a potentiometer 3 for setting the level of protective potential. The output from circuit 8 is applied over a transistor amplifier 20, a transistor 38 and an R. C. circuit 27 to the firing circuit 58 of the thyristors 24, 25, the arrangement being such that an increase or decrease in potential of object 1 results in the thyristors being triggered later or earlier respectively in the half cycle of applied voltage, whereby the value of the protective current is maintained at a desired value. An embodiment including two protective anodes is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown).
