Abstract

1,063,461. Vertical steam boilers; tube supports. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 19, 1965 [Feb. 5, 1964], No. 4864/64. Headings F4A and F4S. A tube coil for a steam generator comprises one or more " pancake " sections, that is a spiral of tubes, or parts of a single tube, all in one plane, and one or more reinforcing straps 26 each strap being secured to a single " pancake " section and having cut-outs 27 to mate with the turns 23, 24, 25 of the section. Each side of the strap is welded to the turns of the coil. The depth of the cut-outs is equal to or slightly greater than the wall thickness of the tube. A number of pancake " sections (14), Fig. 1 (not shown), are arranged concentrically one above the other in the combustion space (18) of a steam generator and water passes down the sections in series to a water wall (16) comprising a helical tube on the inner wall of the space (18). A strap (26) is secured to the lowest " pancake " section.
