A goods wagon has a fully openable roof comprising two side parts 1, Fig. 4, inclined upwardly towards the centre of the wagon from the walls 6 thereof, and a centre part 2 fitting between the edges of the parts 1, the part 2 being movable from between the parts 1 to a position where it does not overlie the floor area of the wagon, and the parts 1 are pivoted above the top flanges 5 of the walls 6 so as to be movable from the closed positions to positions just outside the walls 6. The part 2 is in the form of a shutter which can be wound on to a drum at one end wall 9 of the wagon, the edges of the shutter sliding in drainable grooves in the opposing edges of the parts 1. Shafts 7 mounted above the flanges 5 carry at each end bearer levers 3 pivotally connected to the parts 1. The side parts 1 are also pivoted to rocking levers 4 also pivoted to the end walls 9 of the wagon, the parts 1 being counterbalanced by springs 28 connected between extensions 27 of the levers 3 and the side walls 6. The shafts 7 carry at one end toothed gear sectors 26 rockable, to swing the roof parts 1 outwardly, by rack portions 25 of bars 24 pivoted at their lower ends to a vertically movable rack 23, on the end wall. The rack 23 is movable by a pinion 22 and a hand crank operable shaft 16 from either side of the wagon. The shutter 2 is wound on to the drum by a sprocket 19, chain 18, tensions rollers 21, a sprocket 17 and a hand-crank operable shaft 15, from either side of the vehicle. Pressure devices 30 may be provided above the roller to act resiliently against the shutter and the roller. A locking device 29 is provided between the rack 23 and the shaft 15 to ensure that the latter can only be operated if the side parts 1 are closed or to permit displacement of the rack 23 only if the shutter 2 is completely open and rolled on to the roller. In a simpler form described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown) the side parts 1 are directly pivoted to the bars pivoted to the rack 23 and the levers 3,4 and the sectors 26 are eliminated.
