Abstract
1,062,242. Conductors; capacitors; delay lines. GLOBE-UNION Inc. May 1, 1964 [July 30, 1963], No. 18129/64. Headings H1A, HIM and HlW. An elongate conductor with distributed capacitance has an oxide insulating layer formed between an inner main conductor and an outside conducting layer. The inner conductor comprises an oxidizable metal such as nickel, titanium, aluminium, or tantalum and may have a core of copper or silver. As described, the inner conductor is coated with a conductive, oxygen-permeable silver paint and is heated in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to form the oxide layer. The inner conductor may be bent to shape before the treatment and the oxygenpermeable silver paint may be applied only in selected sections and other sections may be covered with masking paint to inhibit their oxidation. When the conductor is used, for example, in a T.V. tuner, its distributed capacitance provides a by-pass for unwanted high frequencies. The distributed inductance of the conductor may be increased, if required, by forming it into a helix, which may be coated with, or embedded in ferromagnetic material, and the conductor may then be used as a delay line.
