Furnace details.-Steel or iron turnings are added to the carbonaceous mixtures generally employed in the manufacture of upper or lower electrodes and in joining them together, in order to improve conductivity. The proportion of turnings varies up to 50 per cent or more. The electrodes may be used in steel melting furnaces.
