Abstract
1,061,421. Billet heating furnaces. INLAND STEEL CO. Aug. 29, 1963 [Aug. 30, 1962], No. 34149/63. Heading F4B. Steel blooms or billets containing tellurium are directly heated prior to rolling by burners arranged so that the tips of the burner flames do not contact the surface of the billets. In a pusher type furnace, Fig. 1, a lower row of burners 11 deliver a flame parallel to the billets, while an upper row of burners 12, directing flames downwardly towards the billets is so controlled that the tips of the flames do not reach the billets. The rows of burners are staggered, or the upper row of burners may be omitted. The billets may be of round or rectangular cross-section.
