Abstract

1,061,292. Staircases. BROCKHOUSE STEEL STRUCTURES Ltd. Dec. 12, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1963], No. 49069/63. Divided out of 1,061,291. Heading E1W. In a staircase capable for following the distortion of a building framework in the event of ground subsidence, separate treads 11 are mounted upon a pair of spaced parallel stringers 10 and are connected thereto in a manner which permits relative angular movement to take place between the treads and stringers upon longitudinal displacement of one stringer relative to the other stringer. The connection between each end of a tread 11 and a stringer 10 comprises in one example a boss 18 welded to the stringer, which boss is engaged by a hole 13 in the tread, the hole being oversize in relation to the boss to permit the required relative angular movement. During assembly, the treads 11 are supported entirely by the bosses, but the connections are completed by bolts 20 the heads of which are accommodated and grouted in holes 12 in the treads 11.
