Abstract

1315738 Staircases G LOIX 23 Nov 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 54247/71 Heading E1B A staircase is assembled from hollow aluminium stringers 1 each having a pair of hollow aluminium longitudinal members 4 secured therein, and aluminium steps 8, the steps being supported by tubular members 16 secured in holes 15 drilled through the members 4 at regular spacings depending upon the inclination of the staircase. The tubes are secured in holes 15 by bolts the head end of which bears against the inner wall of the member 4 and a nut which bears on a washer which seats in the free end of the tube 16. The tail end of each bolt carries a clamping member which is secured against a respective projection on the lower face of the step, one close to the front and one of a series close to the rear to allow for varying distances between the two tubes of each step. The front projection is between two flanges projecting from the underface of the step. A stiffening flange also extends along the centre of the back of the step. The stringers may have holes for receiving balusters the front and rear edges of the step may be provided with grooves to secure a closing plate for the back and risers.
