In a four-pole series motor, like brushes 12, 14 are connected to the supply 15, while the remaining brushes 11, 13 are respectively connected through parallel-connected field coils 7, 8 and 5, 6 to earth. The earth connections are-made by soldering the coil-ends into notches in the poles.
