Abstract

A method of anodizing thin metal films in which the area to be anodized is restricted by using the capillary action of a wick to convey electrolyte to the anode. The method can be used for adjusting the value of resistors, e.g. Tantalum resistors, by producing a selected thickness of oxide thereon. Since the colour of the metallic film is dependent upon the thickness of the oxide layer, metal films may be coloured for artistic purposes by using the wick in a painting action.
