Abstract

1,060,649. Straightening, untwisting. M. VON LINSINGEN, [trading as BOCHUMER EISENHœTTE HEINTZMANN & CO.]. Dec. 24, 1963 [March 13, 1963], No. 50942/63. Heading B3E. A device for straightening forged axles of motor vehicles which may be distorted or twisted comprises a frame having a poweroperated work clamping chuck for non-rotationally holding the axle inwardly of one of its ends and a pressing device spaced laterally from the chuck and vertically from the axle, a two-armed claw-like clamp being arranged so as to grip by one of its two arms the free end of the axle while its other or lever arm extends into the working path of the pressing device to be engaged and moved thereby through a predetermined arc. The machine comprises a frame 1 on which is mounted an hydraulic cylinder assembly 2 to the piston of which is attached a clamping jaw 5 co-operating with a fixed jaw 6 and a pressing device having a slide 9 supporting bearing boxes 12 housing unilaterally flattened freely rotatable contact pieces 11 by a piston-rod 10 with a doubleacting piston 7 of an hydraulic assembly 3. To straighten an I-sectioned axle 4 held adjacent one end between clamps 5, 6, a clamp 13 having a lever arm 16, in conjunction with a coupling claw 15, engages the axle profile and the piston 7 is actuated to move the slide 9 into contact with the arm 16 to effect straightening until the arm is in a vertical position. The angular movement through which the arm 16 may rotate is approximately 30 degrees. The axle may be straightened in two stages by first straightening one half and then the other.
