Abstract

1,60,538. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. INSTITUTE OF GAS TECHNOLOGY. April 15, 1965, No.16378/65. Heading G3P. A control system for gas lights utilizes a solar cell to control the supply of gas to the light. In Fig.2 (not shown), gas flows to the lights via a pressure regulator 11, line 10, main valve 12 and line 16. The main valve comprises closure members 52, 54 connected to a diaphragm 36, the diaphragm being urged to close the main valve by pressure of the gas being controlled and urged to open this valve by a spring 62. A by-pass line 18 containing a restriction 24 communicates with the chamber 46 above the diaphragm and with a line 20 supplying gas to a housing 70 from which a pilot gas supply is taken via line 26. The line 20 terminates as a nozzle 72 the effective area of which is varied by a valve member 88 mounted on a lever 86 rotatable with the armature 78 of a galvanometer 74. The galvanometer is connected to a solar cell 23 having a protective shield 96. The arrangement is such that when the solar cell is not energized, i.e. at night, the valve member 88 closes the nozzle 72, except for a bleed to the pilot, and pressure builds up in chamber 46 to open the valve. When the cell is energized the valve member 88 moves away from the nozzle and reduces pressure in chamber 46 to allow the pressure of gas in chamber 44 to close the valve. A capacitor may be connected across leads 92, 94 connecting the solar cell to the galvanometer to cause the gas light to 'blink'.
