Abstract
1,060,534. Anti-roll devices on vehicle suspensions. SOC. NATIONALE DES CHEMINS DE FER FRANCAIS, and G. L. GUILLEMARD. Feb. 25, 1965 [May 14, 1964], No. 8185/65. Headings B7D and B7L. Rail or road vehicle suspension comprises cantilever-suspension levers 7, Fig. 2, supporting fixed axle boxes 8 and wheel sets 9, torsion bars 4 keyed at 3 and 5 between anchorage 2 and lever hubs 6 respectively, and additional torsion members, generally indicated at 11, connecting each pair of hubs to exert an antiroll effect. The additional torsion members resemble crank-shafts supported on bearings 10 and consisting of hub extensions 13 connected by webs 12 to cross members 12<SP>1</SP>. Their resilience may be altered by dividing one or both webs 12 and interposing between the two halves helical compression springs, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Also resilient means may be provided along the members 12<SP>1</SP> and 13. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the additional torsion members comprise tubes 22 through which extend first torsion members 20 from one hub of a pair of levers to anchorages adjacent the other hubs of the pairs at opposite sides of the suspension. Alternatively, the torsion members 20 may both be anchored to a common block, Fig. 4 (not shown).
