Abstract
1,060,006. Travelling band gas filter. KEITH BLACKMAN Ltd. and P. W. SMITH. Dec. 3, 1964 [Oct. 7, 1963], No. 39381/63. Heading B1T. In a gas filter in which filter cloth is periodically drawn from a supply spool 18 to a takeup spool 19, the intervening filter cloth is exposed on three sides 16, 17, 16 of a sixsided enclosure, cleaned gas being drawn off from the fourth side 15 while the top 12 and bottom 11 are closed. The cloth movement is effected by an electric motor 25, controlled by an air-pressure switch which is actuated by clogging of the exposed cloth causing increased pressure drop. The exposed cloth moves between internal and external sets of vertical struts and cross-wires. Alternatively movement may be controlled by a timer mechanism or effected manually, and the pressure switch may have an 'inching button'. A limit switch 34 on supply spool gives a visual indication when the roll is exhausted. The filter may be mounted with side 15 opening into the end of a duct, or may be mounted in a duct with sides 15, 17 normal thereto and adapter boxes enclosing sides 16 to widen the duct on the inlet side, the boxes having hinged doors providing access to rolls 18, 19.
