1442186 Confining and extracting dust in industrial processes BOWATER-SCOTT CORP Ltd 9 Dec 1974 [19 Oct 1973] 49807/73 Heading F4X Confining and extraction of dust arising during the rewinding (which may include slitting) of paper, tissue, or like fibrous sheet material, is effected by a booth which substantially encloses the rewinding machine, the booth being open at the take-off end of the machine (right-hand end of Figs. 1 and 4) where the booth side walls 21 (and 22, Fig. 2) are joined by a fixed top cover 26, whilst at the intake end of the machine the booth has a relatively low end wall 23 and the both side walls are joined (when the machine is operating) by a retractable cover movable, e.g. on rollers 33 riding on a track 31, a flow of air from the atmosphere being induced through the booth by means such as a fan towards vent openings 47, Fig. 1, and being such as to minimize egress of dust from the booth and not to disturb the motion of the sheets as they are rewound. The intention is to prevent the escape of generated dust into the ambient air whilst minimizing air turbulence within the booth. The rate of air withdrawal from the booth (e.g. through ducting 46) may be controlled by means of dampers or by regulating the fan speed, the control being effected either manually by the operator, or automatically using an air pressure differential or air flow meter at one or more of the booth openings. Accumulated dust is removed from within the booth periodically (e.g. by vacuum cleaners) such as when the reels 2, 3 and 4 of paper are being changed. The movable cover shown comprises articulated slats 35. Alternatively (Fig. 3) the movable cover comprises only two articulated cover parts (50, 51).
