Abstract

1,059,573. Tyre-building apparatus. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Dec. 9, 1963 [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 47209/62. Heading B7C. A method of manufacturing a pneumatic tyre on an inflatable tyre building former incorporating an axially outer and inner pair of bead locating shoulders 11, 12 respectively, comprises the steps of assembling a cylindrical tyre carcass on a cylindrical tyre building former surface with the beads supported on the shoulders 11, detaching the beads from the shoulders, inflating the carcass into a toroidal condition while moving the beads toward one another, and supporting the beads with the carcass in toroidal condition on the shoulders 12. Tread and breaker layer are applied by a carrier (29) (Fig. 2, not shown), provided with rubber suction cups, and sidewalls by conventional means (not shown). Two tyre building formers may be supplied from one tread and breaker former (82) (Fig. 16, not shown) by two carriers (84), each movable between guide rails (85, 86) by a pivotable rail (87).
