Abstract
1,059,294. Refrigerating. CARRIER CORPORATION. Feb. 24, 1964 [July 22, 1963] No. 7696/64. Heading F4H. A compression - condensation refrigeration system comprises capacity control means for regulating the flow of refrigerant from the evaporator to the compressor in dependence on the load on the system and means responsive to the operation of the capacity control means for supplying a portion of the compressor discharge to the evaporator. As shown, the capacity control means comprises adjustable vanes 30 in the suction line 28 and the means for supplying part of the compressor discharge to the evaporator 20 comprises a conduit 32 which includes a solenoid valve 34. An electric motor 42 is provided for controlling the position of the vanes 30 through a link and pulley system (Fig. 2, not shown) and the current supply to the motor is varied by a thermally responsive element 61 mounted on the inlet to a tube bundle 21 in the evaporator, which element controls a variable resistance 64 in the motor supply. As the temperature sensed by element 61 falls, i.e. under low load conditions, the guide vanes are moved to a closed position and a cam on the shaft of motor 42 (Fig. 3, not shown) engages a switch to energize the solenoid valve 34 so that high pressure refrigerant from line 32 enters the bottom of the evaporator 20. The pressure of the liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator from line 19 is thus increased and wetting of all of the tubes of bundle 21 is ensured. A refrigerant distribution system comprising superimposed baffles 24 and 25 having apertures in their top and side walls respectively and an apertured plate 26 is provided to increase the velocity of the entering refrigerant.
