Abstract
1,059,077. Chemical contact apparatus. Z. KABATEK and M. PETRACEK. April 13, 1964 [April 13, 1963], No. 15096/64. Heading B1F. [Also in Division F4] Chemical reactions and/or operations such as drying, cooling or catalyst regeneration, which may or may not involve fluidised beds, are performed in the compartments into which space 1 is divided by radial walls carried on a rotating shaft 5, fluid being fed to these compartments from similar compartments in distribution chamber 8 each of which has a controllable inlet. Granular material for treatment enters successive compartments through inlet 6 and is discharged at outlet 7, the reaction having been completed in one turn of shaft 5. The compartments of chamber 8 communicate with those of space 1 through a grid 3, and may be stationary, or may turn with shaft 5, or may turn part of a revolution and then return under spring loading to an initial position. As each compartment of space 1 moves from loading position (I) to discharge position (V) (Fig. 3, not shown) it is successively fed with fluids whose nature, temperatures and pressure are independently controlled. Cover 11 at the top of space 1 has a series of variable apertures or filters of various resistance opening on each position. The radial walls in space 1 are steel frames filled by refractory material. Parts of grid 3 may be closed or the inlets to chamber 8 interrupted to apply pneumatic shocks to the material in space 1. Pulsing gas is emitted from hollow shaft 17 of a whirling device (Fig. 5, not shown). In operation a chemical reaction is facilitated by passing fluid media into space 1 at certain positions, while different media passed at other positions regenerate a catalyst. In drying, gases fed to successive positions may progressively decrease in temperature and vary in pressure as moisture content of the solid material in space 1 falls.
