[Also in Divisions H1 and H3] An ultraviolet-sensitive Geiger-M³ller detector tube is supplied with an A.C. voltage of substantially square waveform and of an amplitude between the tube operating voltage and the self-ignition voltage. In the circuit shown a sinewave mains voltage applied to the primary winding 1 of a transformer 2 is formed to a square shape by a leakage path 3 separating the primary and secondary windings of the transformer and a capacitor 11 bridging part of the secondary winding 4, and is stabilized by a voltage dependent resistor 10. The detector tube 5 is connected in series with a resistor 6 and a Graetz rectifier control circuit 7 incorporating the coil 8 of a relay having contacts (not shown), adapted for example to interrupt the feed to an oil-fired installation when the flame is extinguished. An alternative circuit (Fig. 3, not shown, see Division H3) incorporates an auto-transformer, and the coil of the control relay is energized by a transistor amplifier.
