Abstract
An aqueous coating composition comprises casein and a compound of the general formula <FORM:1058487/C3/1> wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 10 to 18 carbon atoms, R1 is a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 10 to 18 carbon atoms, or -CH2.CH2.COOM, and M is hydrogen or a salt-forming substituent, e.g. Na, K or NH4. It may be applied to photographic sheet materials to give a surface of low co-efficient of friction (see Divisions B2 and G2).ALSO:Sheet materials, e.g. paper, polyethylenecoated paper, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, polystyrene, polycarbonate or polyester (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) film are coated with aqueous coating compositions containing casein and a compound of the general formula: <FORM:1058487/B1-B2/1> where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 10-18 carbon atoms, R1 is a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 10-18 carbon atoms or CH2.CH2.COOM, and M is hydrogen or a salt-forming substituent. A hardener, e.g. dihydroxydioxane, formaldehyde, diacetal or chromic chloride and for a matting agent, e.g. polymethylmethacrylate beads, silica, starch or glass particles may also be included.
