[Also in Division G5] A sign or instrument dial, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a transparent moulding 1 with recesses 4 in the rear surface forming indicia &c., and a background layer of paint 5 covering the rear surface except for the recesses which are covered by a reflective layer 8 of adhesive metal tape. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 (not shown) Illustrate sections through indicia formed by recesses 4, the recesses having a dimpled floor 6 surrounded by a deeper border 6a or a plane floor, respectively. Layer 8 may be stuck either to the back of layer 5, as shown, or to the front of a support member over which the moulding 1 is fixed, Figs. 4-6 (not shown). Tape may be applied as one piece or several overlapping pieces, and may cover the whole surface or merely cover the recesses. Paint layer 5 may be transluscent or opaque and may be replaced by a transluscent or opaque coloured lamina. In use, the words of the sign appear to stand out, reflective against a coloured non- reflective or slightly reflective background. The adhesive tape may be coloured e. g. gold or silver. Figs. 4-6 illustrate an emblem formed of two mouldings, one, bearing the rear recesses, being cemented to a mounting moulding which bears the reflective tape where it will register with the recesses.
