Abstract

A method of obtaining a bright zinc or cadmium electroplate comprises electroplating in a bath prepared by adding one or more compounds selected from water-soluble amide-substituted linear polyalkylene compounds in a total amount of 0.03 - 5% by weight as a brightener to an acidic electroplating bath having a pH value of 0.2 to 6.5 which contains a sulphate, chloride or fluoborate as its main constituent. Particularly suitable compounds of the above group are polyacrylamide and polymethacrylamide and their copolymers; and poly (vinylalkylether / maleic acid amide), poly (ethylene / maleic acid amide), and poly (vinyl acetate / maleic acid amide).
