Abstract

1057425 Testing micro-wave equipment MICROTHERM Ltd 22 Sept 1964 [30 Sept 1963] 38690/64 Headings G1U U5T1B U5T2A U5T2C and U5P18 Apparatus for detecting when radiation from micro-wave equipment exceeds a predetermined safety level comprises a gas discharge tube 10 provided with conductors 18, 20 forming a half-wave dipole at the radiation frequency and coupled via a transformer 28 to a transistor audio-oscillator 44. The oscillator 44 effects a preliminary ionization of the tube 10 so that when the R.F. energy is coupled into the tube via the dipole the ionization is increased and shifts into the arc glow region which is characterized by a change in colour of the glow. To increase the forward pick-up of the dipole a reflector plate 29 may be provided.
