Abstract
105,689. Mechans, Ltd., and Mechan, S. July 31, 1916. Spring hinges for opening hatch-covers or other ships' fittings &c., after the fastenings have been released. One or more levers F, Fig. 2, are mounted on squared portions of spindles E, which also act as the hinge pins, and are operated to raise the door B by helical springs H, H<1> contained within cylindrical casings G, G<1> mounted coaxially with the hinge, One end of each spring engages the squared portion of the shaft and the other enters a notch in the casing as shown in Fig. 3. The casings are adjustably fixed by pawls G<3> engaging ratchet teeth formed on the outside of the casing. The eye ends of the hinge straps D fit between brackets C, C<1> fixed to the framework A, the brackets being formed with projecting parts C<2>, C<3>, Fig. 4, which support the end of the spring casing. The ends of the casing adjacent the levers F are supported in circular beds at J, Fig. 6, being held down thereon by straps K. The levers F act through yoke-pieces F<1> attached to the door. The casing G<1> is twice the length of the casing G and contains two helical springs.
