Abstract

1,056,453. Data transmission. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. May 19, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 20882/63. Heading H4P. In a system in which the transmission of data is dependent upon the transmission of a continuous signal from the receiver, the receiver can start the transmitter by sending the signal for a pre-set period, whereupon the transmitter sends a synchronizing signal which is longer than the pre-set period. Data is then transmitted when the continuous signal is received. In the embodiment described the continuous signal is an RQ single frequency tone, the absence of which initiates repetition. Spurious pulses of RQ tone do not start the transmitter.
