701,736. Multiplex pulse code signalling; valve gating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 18, 1952, No. 18216/52. Addition to 669,617. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (6) Two coders of the type described in the parent Specification are fed with amplitude modulated pulses of the odd and even numbered channels respectively of a time division multiplex system. A 40-channel system is described using a sixelement simple addition binary code, the code element recurrence frequency being 2 Mc/s, and channel 40 carries a single synchronizing pulse of duration greater than a code pulse. Refinements to improve the accuracy of the coder and decoder are described, Figs. 3, 5 (not shown), and a clipper/ amplifier stage for the former, Fig. 6 (not shown). A circuit for producing amplitude modulated channel signal samples comprises a pentode 46 to the suppressor grid of which is applied the channel signal from terminal 9. The valve is gated on when a 3.5 microsecond channel gating pulse is applied through circuit 52, 53 to the control grid and at the same time a 0.5 microsecond pulse on lead 3 blocks the shunt rectifier 54.
