[Also in Division G1] In an optical system for aligning a pair of grooved rollers 10, 11 in a rolling mill a light source I projects a light beam along an axis between the rollers 10, 11 through a lens system housed in a tube 3 to a light-tight box 5, where the image of the meeting point of the rollers 10, 11 is reflected by a mirror 6 on a ground glass calibrated screen 7. The rollers may then be adjusted to the required position according to the image position on the glass screen. The glass screen may be replaced by a camera.
