1,056,090. Rolling mill. T. SENDZIMIR. Oct. 6, 1965, No. 42513/65. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] In a cluster-type rolling mill having work rolls 13, 14 backed by castors 25-32 which in turn are backed by a mill frame 11 through saddle elements 38; the rolls and strip are cooled by sprays 35, 36 and castors 25-32 are lubricated by forcing metered amounts of airoil mist through passages 47 in each castor shaft 42, into passages 50, 48, 49, and thence to the rollers 46 in the castors. Intermediate rolls 15-24 are provided between the work rolls and the castors. Each of the castors comprises an arcuate saddle-element 38 received in an arcuate seat in a frame 11 and extending from the saddle element is a plurality of collars 40 keyed to shaft 42. Supported between the collars are roller bearings 43, the outer races 45 of which engage the intermediate rolls. Oil mist is supplied to a manifold 61 by a Venturi type-oil fog generating unit 75, Fig. 2 (not shown), and as it passes through passages 50, sharp-edged orifices 79 act to recombine the small oil particles into larger particles, which are then blown into bearings 43. In a modification, each work roll is backed up directly by a pair of castors.
