Abstract
1,055,989. Starting forced flow boilers. HITACHI Ltd. Dec. 2, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 47538/63. Heading F4A. A method of starting a through flow type boiler plant comprises decreasing the fuel flow rate when the fluid pressure upstream of the heating sections exceeds a predetermined value thereby reducing by-pass flows and permitting the size of by-pass circuits to be kept to a minimum. The plant comprises a feed pump 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), supplying water from a deaerator 14 to a boiler 2 and a superheater 3 from which vapour passes through a turbine 1] to a condenser 12, a feed water heater may be provided before the pump. Superheater and turbine by-pass circuits containing pressure relief valve 5 and turbine by-pass valve 7 respectively lead to a flash tank 8 which is connected to a condenser by steam and water lines 18, 19. During starting only part of the fluid is vaporized whilst the unvaporized water, as it is forced through the system causes the pressure to rise and opens valve 5, through which it then flows. To reduce the maximum by-pass flow, the fuel flow rate to the boiler is reduced as the by-pass flow increases by controlling the fuel flow valve 16 in accordance with signals indicating the opening of valve 5. As the by-pass flow decreases and valve 5 closes, the normal fuel flow is restored.
