Abstract
1,105,154. Raising steam in forced flow boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. 25 June, 1965 [25 June, 1964], No. 26994/65. Heading F4A. A vapour power plant comprises a turbine 36, condenser 44, hot well 12, boiler feed pump 10 and once through forced flow boiler 18 including first tube banks 14, 16, receiving vessel 22 and superheating tube banks 28, 30, the working medium flowing in series therearound during normal operation. During start up one quarter full load water flow is established through pump 10, sections 14, 16 and conduit 20 leading to vessel 22, the valve 21 effecting a pressure reduction and consequent expansion of working medium as it passes to the vessel 22. Flash steam separating in the vessel 22 is passed through superheater sections 28, 30 and since turbine valve 42 is closed to turbine by-pass line 52 and condenser 44 whilst liquid from the vessel 22 under control of valve 50 discharges to hot well 12. As firing proceeds valve 21 is opened further and when the flash steam quantity and conditions are suitable valve 42 is opened and valve 54 is closed and the turbine 36 is rolled and loaded. Make up water may be added through line 51 and additional steam for protecting the superheater tubes during start up through line 56.
