Abstract
1,011,405. Starting forced flow steam boilers. GILBERT ASSOCIATES Inc. Sept. 4, 1962 [Sept. 5, 1961], No. 33834/62. Heading F4A. In a control system for starting a once through steam boiler, especially such a boiler wherein a signal increasing the firing rate according to a fixed starting programme may at any time be overridden by a signal representative of the rate of metal temperature rise at, for example, the superheater outlet header so as to hold this rate of rise within safe limits, a throttle and shut-off valve 9 is provided between the evaporator and superheater zones of the boiler to divert water-steam mixture to a flash tank 6 through a reducing valve 7. In operation steam liberated in the flash tank and the water drain therefrom may be conveyed to a feedwater heater 11, the surplus being delivered to a heat sump 10. Some of the steam may flow from the flash tank to the superheater through a check valve 8 to supplement steam which may be admitted to the superheater through the throttle valve 9. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the flash tank drain water flows through a reducing valve into a low pressure vessel whence it flows to the feedwater heater or heat sump.
